Rainer Kattel is deputy director and a professor of innovation and public governance at University College London’s Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose. His research centers on public-sector innovation, digital transformation in the public sector, and financialization. Kattel has published work on innovation policy, its governance, and specific management issues. His recent books include “The Elgar Handbook of Alternative Theories of Economic Development,” and “How to Make an Entrepreneurial State: Why Innovation Needs Bureaucracy,” which won the Academy of Management’s 2023 George R. Terry Book Award. Kattel also received Estonia’s 2013 National Science Award.
