Ricardo Quiñónez

Ricardo Quiñónez is mayor of Guatemala City, Guatemala. He was first sworn in following the death of the previous mayor in 2018, and was elected and reelected in 2019 and 2023. Previously, Quiñónez was first councilor and before that, first syndic, on the municipal council. Earlier in his political career, he was secretary general of planning and programming for the presidency. In 1998, he led the management plan for international cooperation for reconstruction after Hurricane Mitch. He also led the Presidential Commission for the Modernization of the National Geographic Information System. Quiñónez began his career at the airlines Aviateca and TACA, where he was a marketing manager and later director of airport services. As mayor, he has led the modernization of the city, encouraged technological innovation, and developed a comprehensive mobility plan, among other efforts.
