Cara LaPointe is co-director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Assured Autonomy, working to ensure that autonomous systems are safe, secure, and trustworthy. Prior to this, she was a senior fellow at Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact and Innovation, where she created the Blockchain Ethical Design Framework. Previously, LaPointe was interim director of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships and, before that, conducted underwater robotics research at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Deep Submergence Lab. She also held roles in autonomous systems, acquisitions, ship design, naval force architecture, and unmanned vehicle technology integration during her more than two decades in the United States Navy. LaPointe has advised global emerging technology initiatives, including at the United Nations and Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. She is a White House fellow and French-American Foundation Young Leader.
