Carina Arvizu Machado is an urban policy expert with over 12 years of experience committed to social, territorial and environmental justice. She currently teaches social urbanism and gender and transport at Tecnológico de Monterrey’s architecture, art and design school. Arvizu was previously the cities program director for the World Resources Institute Center for Sustainable Cities, an urban consultant, and urban development director for FONATUR, Mexico’s tourism development fund, among several other roles. From 2019 to 2020, she was Mexico’s national deputy secretary of urban development and housing. Arvizu was awarded a Humphrey SPURS fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 2023-2024, funded by the U.S. Department of State. She excels in leading multidisciplinary, diverse teams and implementing public policies related to housing, mobility, urban development and care across various government levels.
