Carolina Cosse is the mayor of Montevideo, Uruguay, elected in 2020. Prior to this, she was the minister of industry, energy, and mining under president Tabaré Vazquez from 2015 to 2019. In this role, Cosse promoted diversification of the national energy grid and development of the mining and telecommunication sectors with emphasis on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. Previously, she was president of ANTEL, the state-owned telecommunication company, from 2010 to 2015. Earlier in her career, Cosse directed the government of Montevideo’s information technology division and worked in the private sector managing engineering projects in Uruguay and other Latin American countries.
