Chokwe Lumumba is the mayor of Jackson, MS. First elected in 2017, he was re-elected in 2021. Lumumba’s successful initiatives include securing millions of dollars in federal grants and appropriations to improve the City of Jackson’s water infrastructure. He is also managing partner of Lumumba and Associates law firm and a member of the Mississippi Bar Association as well as the Magnolia Bar Association. A founding member of the Mississippi Human Rights Collective, Lumumba is the media representative of the Coalition for Economic Justice and a member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement. He has been recognized as one of Mississippi’s Top 50 Most Influential Leaders and named one of the 100 Most Influential African Americans of 2017 by The Root.
