Dagur Eggerston

Mayor of Reykjavik, Iceland

Dagur Eggertsson is the mayor of Reykjavík, Iceland, first elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 and 2022. Previously, he was a member of Reykjavík City Council from 2002 to 2014. There, Eggertsson was chair of the city planning committee, vice president of the Social Democratic Alliance political party, and chair of the city executive council. Prior to this, he was a physician at National University Hospital in Iceland. Earlier in his career, Eggertsson was a program producer at Icelandic National Radio and managing director of the Icelandic Student Innovation Fund. He is the author of a three-volume biography of former Iceland prime minister Steingrímur Hermannsson. Eggertsson is chair of the OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth.
