Ekrem İmamoğlu, born in 1970 in Trabzon, graduated from Istanbul University with a degree in Business Administration and later earned a Master's in Human Resources Management. He became Head of the CHP Beylikdüzü District in 2009 and was elected Mayor of Beylikdüzü in 2014. In 2019, he was elected Mayor of Istanbul, despite an annulled initial victory. İmamoğlu won the rerun election with 54.21%. In 2024, he secured a second term with 51.14% of the vote and was subsequently elected President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye. He is married to Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, with three children.
