James Burnett is the managing director and founding editor of The Trace, a nonprofit news organization dedicated to reporting on gun violence. Previously, he was story editor at The New Republic, news editor at New York magazine, and editor in chief of Boston Magazine. Burnett’s work has also appeared in Rolling Stone, Runner's World, The New York Times Magazine, and FourFourTwo. His recognition includes a National Magazine Award for single-topic coverage.
