Mayor Mike Johnston is the mayor of the city and county of Denver, Colorado. Previously, he was a Colorado state senator representing northeast Denver from 2009 to 2017. In this role, Johnston focused on issues including gun safety, renewable energy and education. Prior to this, he was a principal at three schools in the Denver metro area. Earlier in his career, Johnston was an education policy adviser to political candidates and a teacher in rural Mississippi.
