Stephen Goldsmith is the Derek Bok Professor of Urban Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School. He directs Data-Smart City Solutions at the Bloomberg Center for Cities. He also leads the Project on Municipal Innovation, a regular gathering of senior leaders of major U.S. cities. Professor Goldsmith’s current initiatives include working with cities to explore how agentic AI can enhance community engagement and performance, and helping city officials improve hyper-local environmental conditions that affect public health. Previously, Professor Goldsmith served as deputy mayor of New York City and mayor of Indianapolis, where he earned international recognition for his innovative work in management, public-private partnerships, and privatization. He was also the chief domestic policy advisor for the George W. Bush presidential campaign in 2000, Chair of AmeriCorps, and prosecutor for Marion County, Indiana.
