Ana Lilia Rivera

Ana Lilia Rivera is a senator representing the State of Tlaxcala in Mexico. First elected in 2018 and reelected in 2024, she is president of the National Defense Committee and a member of legislative, agriculture and foreign affairs committees. Rivera is also coordinator of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger and the Mexican Chapter of the FAO, and she has proposed 141 initiatives, including one passed into law to protect native corn. In the previous legislature, she was vice-president of the Senate Board of Directors and president of the Senate. From 2008 to 2011, Rivera was a representative in Tlaxcala’s congress. Her three-decade career as a lawyer, politician and activist reflects many efforts to further economic, social, cultural and environmental rights. She has also been an author and promoter of national and regional regulations, including the Model Law of Community Water and Sanitation Systems.
