Elke Van den Brandt is minister of mobility, public works, and road safety for the City of Brussels. As a minister, she introduced a 30 km/h speed limit in the city region, making it the largest such zone in Europe. Van den Brandt is currently executing the region’s mobility plan, Good Move, which aims to eliminate all traffic fatalities and lower car traffic by 35 percent. To achieve this, she developed 50 kilometers of cycling lanes and plans to create five low-traffic neighborhoods every year. Van den Brandt is also the president of the Flemish community commission, responsible for finance, budget, welfare, and family. Prior to this, she was a member of the Brussels parliament and Flemish parliament.
