Janette Sadik-Khan is the principal of transportation at Bloomberg Associates, working with mayors around the world to reimagine and redesign their cities with innovative projects that can be developed quickly and inexpensively. Prior to this, she was commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation, where she improved safety, mobility, and sustainability of roads, bridges, and ferries. In addition to the pedestrianization of Times Square, Select Bus Service routes, and the nation’s largest bike-share program, Sadik-Khan added 400 miles of bicycle lanes and 60 plazas citywide. Previously, she was a senior vice president at Parsons Brinckerhoff international engineering firm, and before that, deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration. Author of Streetfight: Handbook for an Urban Revolution, Sadik-Khan chairs the National Association of City Transportation Officials, is a board member of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy and Regional Plan Association, and a trustee of Occidental College.
