Jose Castillo is an architect, urban planner, and educator based in Mexico City and Ithaca, NY. He is the Chair of the Department of Architecture at Cornell University and has taught extensively in Mexico, Spain, and the U.S. Jose is the founding principal of a|911, a practice based in Mexico City. a/911’s work includes research, cultural, housing, infrastructure, urban design, and planning projects in various cities in Mexico. Award-winning projects include the Elena Garro Cultural Center, the Ara Iztacalco and Iztapalapa housing projects as well as the Ursulo Galván and Valentín Gómez Farías PILARES. Jose has also served as a juror in several competitions, including Bloomberg’s Philanthropies Mayors Challenge Latin America and the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize.
