Kate Mulligan

Founding Scientific Director of the Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing; Co-Chair of the International Social Prescribing Collaborative

Toronto, Canada

Kate Mulligan is a health geographer, writer, and global expert in social prescribing — the connecting of people to arts, culture, and community as medicine. Her work shifts the question from "what's the matter with you?" to "what matters to you?" and in so doing, reminds people that they matter. Founding scientific director of the Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing and co-chair of the International Social Prescribing Collaborative, she has spent two decades building the evidence and infrastructure for community-led, neighbourhood-scale health around the world. A Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellow in New York and professor at the University of Toronto's Dalla Lana School of Public Health, her current work focuses on integrating social prescribing into urban health.
