London Breed is the mayor of San Francisco, California. She is the first African American woman to hold this office in the city’s history. As mayor, Breed has focused on assistance for the homeless and citizens with mental health and substance use disorders, housing, and combating climate change. Prior to this, she served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, representing District 5 for six years – including three years as board president. Previously, Breed was a San Francisco fire commissioner, and before that, a San Francisco Redevelopment Agency commissioner. Earlier in her career, she was executive director of the African American Art and Culture Complex in San Francisco for over a decade.
