Nonresident Senior Fellow for the Brookings Institution

MarySue Barrett is a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, advising organizations on innovation and fostering inclusive partnerships. Previously, she was president of the Metropolitan Planning Council for 25 years. Focused on the Chicago region, Barrett established a national employer-assisted housing prototype and the Great Rivers Chicago vision plan. Prior to this, she was policy chief for Chicago Mayor Daley, where she led community economic development and education policy and coordinated teams spanning 40 departments and seven city agencies. A writer and public speaker, Barrett is a board member of Current, Leadership Greater Chicago, and The Chicago Network. She volunteers with One Million Degrees and The Night Ministry.
