Ricardo Rio is mayor of Braga, a city of more than 200,000 inhabitants in Portugal. He was first elected in 2013 and reelected in 2017 and 2021. Prior to this, he was a private and public consultant to several institutions and taught at various universities and polytechnic institutes. Rio is president of the Global Parliament of Mayors Executive Committee, elected in 2023. He is also a member of the European Union’s Committee of the Regions, the executive committee of the Eurocities network, the board of Porto Tourism Association, and the steering group of the OECD’s Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth initiative. In 2022, he was awarded the World Mayor for Sustainability title by the City Mayors Foundation.
