Richard Shakespeare is the Chief Executive of Dublin City Council, the largest local authority in Ireland. Mr. Shakespeare is a qualified landscape architect and engineer. With over 30 years of experience in local government, including more than 20 years in senior leadership roles, he has built a strong reputation as a dynamic leader, strategic thinker, and effective communicator. His career spans a wide range of strategic and operational functions across Dublin City Council and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. Previously, he held the position of assistant chief executive with responsibility for Dublin’s Planning and Property Development Department and Culture, Recreation and Economic Services. He has led major urban regeneration projects, rezoning initiatives, and cultural infrastructure developments, including the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter, the Victorian Fruit and Vegetable Market, and the Iveagh Markets.
