Rainer Kattel is deputy director of the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose at University College of London, where he is also a professor. His research focuses on innovation, digital transformation, and financialization in the public sector. Kattel has published extensively on innovation policy, its governance, and specific management issues in Public Management Review, Science and Public Policy, and Oxford Review of Economic Policy, among others. The author of The Elgar Handbook of Alternative Theories of Economic Development and several others, his latest book, How to make an Entrepreneurial State: Why Innovation Needs Bureaucracy, earned the Academy of Management’s 2023 George R. Terry Book Award. Kattel’s honors include Estonia's 2013 National Science Award.
