Sonam Vashi is the director of network success for Documenters Network at City Bureau, which hires and trains communities across the United States to report on local government. Previously, she co-founded and co-directed Canopy Atlanta, a nonprofit newsroom producing stories chosen, reported, and presented by Atlantans. A 2022 John S. Knight Community Impact Fellow and journalist, Vashi has reported for The New York Times, CNN, Atlanta Magazine, and National Geographic, among others. Her recognition includes Atlanta Press Club’s 2020 Award of Excellence in Investigative Reporting and North American Travel Journalists Association’s bronze award in historical travel.
