Susan Aitken is the city council leader of Glasgow, Scotland. Elected in 2017 and then re-elected in 2022, she is the first Scottish National Party member to hold this office. Aitken is also an advisory board member of the Cities Climate Investment Commission, addressing the challenge of financing the net zero-emissions transition in UK cities. Previously, she held policy and research roles in the Scottish parliament and charities, social enterprises, and volunteer groups. Earlier in her career, Aitken was a freelance writer and editor specializing in health and social care policy. She was named the 2019 Scottish Local Politician of the Year for her work to deliver equal pay justice for thousands of women in Glasgow and the 2021 Scottish Council Leader of the Year for her leadership on climate issues.
